April is Poetry Month
Poetry Reading Happy Hour
Tuesday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m.
What better way to wind down for the day than listening to poems while drinking a glass of wine? We are excited to welcome Marilee Ensign, Naomi Guttman, Amy James, Thomas Knauer, Barbara Pratt, and others to be our special guest readers! They will recite poems by E.E. Cummings, Emily Dickinson, Wendy Cope, and others. For ages 21 and up.
Haiku Contest
Write a haiku-style poem about your love of books, stories, or libraries (bonus points for mentioning the Kirkland Town Library). The contest runs through April 30 in honor of National Poetry Month. A winner will be chosen in each of three categories: adult, teen, or child, and their poems will be framed and hung in the Library for all to enjoy. Entries can be emailed to clinton@midyork.org or dropped off at the library anytime before 5 p.m. on April 30.
Poem-In-Your Pocket
Stop by and pick up a free poem for your pocket! They are available all month at Clinton Agway, Cremeria, A Guy A Girl and a Laundromat in Clark Mills, and Utica Coffee. Plus, we have some here at the Kirkland Town Library!
Poetry Path
The Poetry Path is a self-guided route of 12 sites within a ½ mile of the Kirkland Town Library. The entire loop is a 1.5-mile walk, on which you can savor the unique way poems connect us to places, community and each other. Several of the poets have local connections, adding to the Path’s appeal. Follow the map to each outdoor location and enjoy poems chosen for their resonance with a specific Village of Clinton locale. Plus, it’s always open – as long as there is enough light to read! Stop by the library to get started; click here to read more.
Is it Kendrick or Shakespeare?
Stop in to take this interactive quiz that asks, “Who wrote it: Kendrick Lamar or William Shakespeare?” You’ll be surprised at how hard it is to guess if the Bard or the Pulitzer Prize-winning artist wrote the lyrical line.
Celebrating Little Art
Saturday, April 19 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Stop by to see Cate Reynolds’ exhibit “A Small Medium: A Little Daily Art Practice” on view in the Little Free Art Gallery until May 2.
While you’re here, make some little art of your own! Make a miniature painting, do some small stitching, shape a slight sculpture, or produce a petite zine. Plus, we’ll have tiny refreshments. Maybe can have your own wee show at the KTL one day!
Playdates
Check out a game console that is both brand new and familiar. The Playdate is a small hand-held device with a signature crank and a ton of games for you to play. Borrow one for a week with your library card and see what all the fun is about!
The Anxious Generation Book Talks
A partnership between the Clinton Central School District and the Kirkland Town Library
Books available now; join us on Wednesday, May 7, or Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m.
