Enter to Win Tickets to see Lin-Manuel Miranda
Stop in the library any time before the end of the day on September 23 and enter to win two tickets to hear Lin-Manuel Miranda speak at as part of the Sacerdote Great Names Series at Hamilton College on September 29 at 7 p.m. Miranda is the composer, creator, and original star of the Tony Award-winning musical “Hamilton,” which is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The winner will be drawn on Wednesday, September 24. “Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?” Libraries, of course!
One entry per person. One winner will receive two tickets; tickets will be emailed to you, so an email address is required to enter. The raffle is for adults, but they are welcome to bring their child or teen with the second ticket.
Mohawk Valley Gives: Books and More
Thanks to the support of donors and patrons, the Kirkland Town Library offers a robust and diverse collection of materials for all ages. Our special collection (or Library of Things) now has more than 50 items! Plus, we offer programs and services like two notary publics to meet the needs of those we serve. Our goal is to continue to satisfy, surprise, delight, and inspire those who walk through our doors.
On September 19, plan to make a donation in support of the Library! Your gift can help us keep moving forward.

In honor of the new school year, this month’s art show is an exhibit of school photos from community members. See your friends and neighbors in their best back-to-school outfits, smiling widely, and sometimes a little bit awkward.
Clinton Challenge Final Results
The ending of the Clinton Challenge is often a surprise, and this year was no different.
After fourteen weeks of reading, Clinton, Iowa, has won for the second year in a row! Kate Struble, Community Engagement Specialist at the Clinton Public Library said they had a lot of patrons turn in their reading time for the whole summer at the last minute, leading to a total of 27,445 hours.
Pennsylvania also had enormous numbers come in for the last week, and finished in second place with 26,650 hours.
New York battled for first place for the second half of the summer, and despite a huge gain in week fourteen, finished in third place with 25,108 hours.
The fourth-place finish was really close! In the end, newcomer Indiana (19,422 hours) beat out Massachusetts (19,405 hours) by only 17 hours!!! It was a valiant effort by both libraries.
New Jersey’s Team Captain reported in with 14,177 hours, saying, “I know we lost, but we still had a lot of fun!”
Win or lose, the biggest news is that more than 1,000 people at six libraries read for 132,000 hours. That is a lot of reading happening across the country. Whoever said people don’t read anymore should eat their words!

Book Donations
We will resume collecting used book donations towards the end of September. When we have an actual date, we will post it here.
If you want to move them along sooner, you can take them to the Better World Book Donation Bin outside MidYork Headquarters, 1600 Lincoln Ave, Utica (right off the arterial), or to Thrifty Shopper in the New Hartford Shopping Center. The former benefits all libraries, and the latter, veterans.
